Congratulations to WHES for winning a $43k grant to support the Leader in Me program at the school! This program has been a big initiative for Dr Loving and her staff. I'm so happy to see their hard work has been rewarded! See the district press release below:

Two District Elementary Schools Receive Grants To Implement Leader in Me Program

Westover Hills and G.H. Reid elementary schools are the district’s newest recipients of grants to implement the Leader in Me program, a whole-school leadership model designed to impact school culture through teaching staff and students to develop their full potential. The model is based on the best-selling book, The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, by Dr. Stephen R. Covey.

Under the Leader in Me leadership model, teachers are encouraged to take advantage of teachable moments throughout the school day to empower children to become leaders at home and in school. As a result, students develop such leadership skills as taking initiative, communication, and goal-setting. These principles are strategically woven into the core curriculum, student activities, and overall culture of the school. Common program outcomes include decreased disciplinary referrals as well as increased student achievement, attendance and student engagement.Westover Hills will receive approximately $43,000 from the I Am a Leader Foundation (IAALF) to implement the program. In previous years, Cary and Fisher elementary schools have implemented the Leader in Me program at their schools.

School staff from both elementary schools will participate in a three-day training in August for leadership development, followed by a two-day training in the fall.
